If you are having trouble sleeping, you should try exercising more. According to a new study, exercising regularly helps to encourage better sleep. People who adhere to the national guidelines for exercise and physical activity have better sleep, and experience less fatigue during the day than those who don’t.
There are several ways that exercise helps to improve sleep. These include:
1. Helping you fall asleep
You’ll fall asleep much faster if you exert yourself physically. In a recent study, aerobic exercise has been shown to alleviate insomnia. Participants in the study showed improved quality of sleep and less daytime sleepiness after participating in aerobic exercise.
2. Helping to alleviate stress
Stress is one of the most common causes for sleepless nights. Exercise helps to eliminate stress and clear the mind. This in turn helps to improve quality of sleep.
3. Improving the quality of sleep
Many people have trouble staying asleep long enough. Not only does exercise help you to fall asleep, but also to stay asleep. This helps your body to get adequate rest. You will spend adequate time in each stage of sleep to ensure normal balance.
4. Helping you get more sleep
Exercise helps to increase the total time that people sleep. Consistent exercise will ensure that you sleep for longer, consistently. A consistent exercise regimen will result in an increase of your total average sleeping time.
5. Decreased daytime drowsiness
Exercise helps you to feel energized. It also helps to alleviate other causes of daytime drowsiness including depression, sleep deprivation and diabetes. You will in turn experience better sleep at night.
Exercise is an effective and easy way to improve your sleep.
